Quick Tip: Hair That Is Brushing Rough Fibers

So, as you all know I have been wearing my hair in the mini twists. I think the hairstyle is cute but, I really don't like my hair brushing my collar (I have worn tweed, cotton, and other fibers). This can lead to my hair ends being damaged or snagging on these fiber. I was hoping that when I sprayed some of my water mixture on my hair that it would shrink and not brush my collar but, that did not happen.

So, I came up with the idea to just wear satin scarves around my collar area. I mean, I wear satin bonnets/scarves to bed and under my acrylic hats. So why not wear it around my neck?

I have quite a few scarves in my collection so, I just focused my outfit today around my scarf. Now, my hair is brushing my satin scarf and all is well.

Another tip: Wear satin shirts. (I have quite of few of those as well.)

  1. I also hate that too! But you've come up with a good solution!

  2. Smart solution. And you do have a lot of scarves.

  3. Ms. Cee how do you twist your hair? I have your hair type but when I twist, no matter how small or big, my hair looks scanty. Do you twist when your hair is damp or dry?

  4. @Natmane - This set of twists I put in on dry hair that was stretched out from some individual braids. I used Fantasia IC Olive Gel to twist the hair. What I've learned to do in order to make the hair look fuller is to get very small sections of hair. The hair will naturally "poof" from the gel and this will cause it to look thicker and cover any parts of the hair. I did a video on Youtube if you would like an idea of how small I did the twists here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rC1UtX4W2z0 Also, I did spray on my water mixture so this also helped to give my hair a fuller look.

    I hope this helps.

  7. O! Good idea! I think I'll try it on the rare occasions that I wear my hair down. One thing that I'll mention. I don't mean to sound like a nag, especially since your method didn't mention doing this but Safiath's did so: styling hair while wet is bad. Yes, that was a simple and blanket statement. I never style my hair when not dry. If I see a style that is done using this method, I always style first, then wet the hair. Example: many people will wash their hair, then braid it, allow it to dry and then take it out, in order to achieve crimps or curls or w/e (depends on how you do it and your hair texture). I never do this as I've seen people who think "Great, I'm not using heat or anything" only to have bald spots because they didn't know that the pores of one's scalp are larger when wet. So, if you style when wet, when it dries, the pore constricts again and the style pulls the hair out of the scalp. This apparently leads to hair loss even if only left in for short periods (8 hours sleeping). I have a sensitive scalp so I just didn't do it because 1) my head hurts after I style it while wet and 2) my head actually feels really good when I style it, THEN wet it. One can still do the styles though. In this case, I just reverse the steps (braid while dry, wet, allow to air dry, take down, yay!). Sorry for the soap box on that but when you've seen the pics I've seen, you feel the need to warn everyone.

  8. @arielifeoma - Thank you for the advice. I do know that hair is weaker when it is wet so, I can understand this. I do style some of my hairstyles while its wet but, I still try to limit the amount of manipulation on my wet hair.
