Hair Today: Cornrow Updo

So, this past Saturday and Sunday I cornrowed my hair and put individual braids in the back. Once all the braids were in I shampooed, deep conditioned, and applied a leave-in to my hair (using Giovanni's line).

I actually had plans for a different hairstyle but, it failed. Last night, I pin curled the hair while it was still wet and let it dry. I took the pin curls out this morning but, I wasn't feeling the curled look at all (For this reason, I will not be uploading the video of the pin curled braids). So, I just ended up pinning my hair up into an updo. I will play some with some other styles tonight...

Hair Today: Accessorized Twist Updo

So, my sister put some rather small twists in my hair this past Saturday. I plan on curling them for a curly twist updo. But, for the time being I just pinned them up and put a flower headband in it for a cute accesory.

Wish List: Forever 21 Items

When I start to experiment with more updos, I want to start adding accesories to give the look a little more "umph". I was on Forever 21's site--which is a great site--and saw so many cute headbands. Seriously, they have such a wide range.

I saw this headband that I wanted and it is priced at $3.80. I am trying to get away from black flowered accesories because they blend into my hair too much. So, it just makes my hairstyle look a little off. So, I saw these cute sequined headbands. One is in purple, which is a color I love to wear. And the other is in gray, which is a great alternative to black. I like these types of headbands because they do not add pressure to the hair or pull at the hair.



Then, I saw this ADORABLE hat that I just have to have for the winter months. This hat has a such a vintage feel. It looks as if it came straight from the '20s. I can just imagine popping this on my head on top of my twist updos. It is priced at $14.80, which is not too bad. And it is 100% wool. However, I am a thrifty girl so, I will be on the lookout for hats similar to this when I go thrifting.

Hairstyle: Twist Updo with Headband

I mentioned in a previous post that I was getting tired of wearing twist-outs. I adore how they look and how they turn out but, I was just getting a bit bored. I had planned on trying a new hairstyle. However, I went to my trusty twist updo.

I put the twists in on Sunday on dry hair. I was experiencing a lazy day and did not do my usual routine of washing my hair. I still like how my twist updo turned out. And I have noticed that my hair has grown some. When I first did the twist updo HERE, my twists were shorter. Now they hang a little bit below my eyebrows.

The steps are still similar:
1. Twist hair on dry hair using a gel. I used Jamaican Mango and Lime Locking Gel.
2. Start to bobby pin the hair throughout the head by picking up different sections.
3. Add a cute accessory if you want to jazz it up a bit.

Hair Accessories...They Can Jazz Up Your Look

If you ever feel yourself getting bored with your natural hair, I have a suggestion. Try hair accessories. Hair accessories can immediately change up your look while at the same accentuating your natural 'do.

I don't wear accessories avidly, however; I do appreciate how they can change up a look. My main accessories that I have are: (1)crochet flowers that I make (2)various satin flowers (2)my flowered headbands (3)crochet tams (slouchy hats) that I make (4)my jeweled bobby pins that I bought from various locations (5)headwraps that I wrap upward or downward (6)my various earrings.

Usually, when I am trying something different I will play around with various flowers in my twist outs. I also like putting my flowered headbands in with my afro. However, I think my FAVE accessory will have to the crochet tam. I like the tams because they give me a chic yet, earthy look. Sometimes I will use the tam to cover my full head. Other times, I will either cornrow or twist my hair and have it peek from the tam. My accessory that I make sure to don everywhere I go are my earrings. I LOVE how earrings are so girly and feminine. I have pairs that range from small studs, to hoops, to unique dangling earrings.
