On Friday night I co-washed my hair, oil rinsed, deep conditioned, and styled it. Because I have been so busy moving and packing up my apartment, I didn't feel like trying nothing too major with my hair. So, I went to the trusty french braids. I wore the hair in french braids for the first 5 days. And this morning I took the ends of the braids down and pinned it up for a new look.
I finally moved everything out of my old place and now I just need to unpack the many, many, many boxes I need to. So, the next style I do will probably be a fast style also. I will try to record a tutorial for you all.
This is Day 6 hair so, you notice that its getting kind of fuzzy looking. But, it is what it is :-)
This blog focuses on my journey since going natural. Topics will range from hairstyles, product reviews, personal experiences, personal opinion, hair inspirations, and so much more...

Hair Today: French Braids with Swooped Pin-Up
Yes, I am still rocking the french braids but, they are holding up so wonderfully. Also, I must admit that I really like this hairstyle. So, I tried something new with the french braids. I did a low side pin-up. I think this look is so me. Elegant and classic.
I am going to re-do the hairstyle this weekend and I have plans to shoot a tutorial on this style.

Hairstyle: French Braids leading to Low Pony Puff
So, since I had a rather busy and full weekend I wasn't able to do my hair on Friday. So, I did it on Sunday. I shampooed my hair using Giovanni Triple Tea Shampoo (a gift from my sister, Auset). I then co-washed with Suave Almond conditioner (another gift from my sister, Auset). I did an oil rinse of 50:50 castor oil and EVOO. I then deep conditioned witht he Suave Almond conditioner.
Here's how I achieved this style.
1. I parted my hair into three sections. Two in the front and one in the back.
2. I then applied the Suave Naturals in coconut to a section in the front and cornrowed it.
3. I then applied the conditioner to the other sections and cornrowed it.
4. I then applied the conditioner to the back section and pulled all of the hair, including the braids into the low pony tail.
5. I put two-strand twists in the ponytail part so, that my hair would not be matted and tangled up the next morning.
6. I then slept with a satin scarf over the entire do.
7. The next morning, I simply took the twists out and seperated it. Of course, it was still wet but, I knew this was going to happen. I wasn't going for a super defined puff.
I really like this easy style:-)
SN: I know its crazy that I pulled my hair into a low pony tail considering I really hate any pressure on my hair. But, I didn't put in the band tight and I don't plan on having this style but for 2-3 days.

Hairstyle: French Braids
So, I finally can achieve French Braids without having to divide them into four sections (as I did previously).
Yesterday, after church I knew I had to do my hair. For some reason, I just wasn't in the mood to do it. However, I also knew that I could not neglect my hair. So, I figured I would co-wash my hair but, I had no idea what style I wanted to do for my hair.
I wore my hair out for about a week and a half so, I knew I needed a protective style. Yet, sometimes I get tired of protective styles that involve so many bobby pins. So, I kept thinking and finally figured that I would put in french braids. This hairstyle is so simple and so fast. I love it. It's great for those times you want to be low maintenance.
Here's what I did:
1. Co-washed my hair with V05 Moisture Milks in Strawberry.
2. Detangled my hair.
3. Deep conditioned with V05 Moisture Milks in Strawberry for about 30 minutes.
4. Divided my hair into 2 sections down the middle.
5. Applied Suave Naturals in Coconut as a leave-in to each section.
6. Braided each section.
I did do a YouTube video on this hairstyle but, it is still processing. So, I will provided a link later.

Hair Today: Side Swept Twist Out Front
Ok yall, I just had to post a "Hair Today" segment. Last nights as I was oiling my hair and sealing my ends I played around with a few hairstyles I could wear with my hair like this.
I was thinking that having the hair side-swept would be cute but, I didn't think that it would stay down (my hair loves to rise). So, I bobby pinned it down to see how it would look and it was cute. But, I knew that I didn't want to have to do that for work. So, I had plans to just pin it all up in the front and rock some sort of updo.
Yet, this morning after I took off my satin bonnet. I first pinned one side. And as I was about to pin the other side I realized that my hair looked cute and was laying down. So, I left it like that and wore it to work today.
My hair is still in french braids in the back.

Hairstyle: Twist Out Front with French Braid Back
So, this weekend I did try a new hairstyle for my hair. Again, the hairstyle that I had in mind did not come to vision. But, I improvised yet again. Through my trusty bobby pins. This is a hairstyle that is 90% protective. There is a small portion of hair left out so this accounts for the 10%. It is getting cold in these parts so, I am trying to protect my hair from the winds.
Here's what I did:
1. Co-washed my hair with Suave Coconut Naturals
2. Deep conditioned with Suave Coconut Naturals
3. I ended up leaving this conditioner in b/c I got on the phone with my sis and the conditioner was thoroughly soaked into my hair by the time I got off the phone. So, I thought why not leave it in??
4. I parted the back section of my hair and french braided it.
5. I applied HE Totally Twisted to the front potion of my hair and proceeded to twist it.
6. The next morning I unraveled the twists.
7. I then pinned up the sides of the twist-out and left a small portion for a bang.
8. And you're done!

Hairstyle: French Braids with Pompadour
PICTURE HEAVY POST.

So, this weekend I finally tried something new with my hair and I like it! In a past post, I mentioned that I wanted to try some french braids and I found a video on YouTube showing how to do a french braid style on short and coily natural hair. Initially, I intended to just to the french braids but, then I got an idea in my head to jazz it up a bit.
While at church, this cute little girl had her hair braided up but, she had a section left out loose. So, I thought to myself it would be cute to french braid my hair and leave enough hair for a bang (a twisted-out bang). So, I braided the hair, left a section loose for a bang, and twisted that section up. I tied a scarf over the braids to smooth it out and then I put a satin bonnet over my entire head.
When you first put the Giovanni Deep Moisture leave-in on it leaves a white frothy residue. But, what's great about it is it disappears and soaks into the hair. (I used to be nervous about that residue.)
Notice the residue is disappearing.
The next morning, I took the twists down for my bang. However, I just wasn't really feeling the bang with the entire look. So, I had to think of something quick because I needed to go to work. It was then that I came up with the idea to pin it up for a pompadour. And I liked it!
What I really love about having the pompadour instead of the bang is that it is now a complete protective style. With the bang out, I would have still had some of my hair exposed to the harsh winds of the coming fall/winter. And even though it is still hot outside, I have been practicing/trying-out new protective styles for the coming months.
Here's what I did:
1. I co-washed my hair with Suave Coconut Naturals.
2. I took my wide-tooth comb, took small sections of my hair, and detangled my entire head.
3. I deep conditioned for 15 mintues with the Suave Coconut Naturals.
4. I then applied my Giovanni Deep Moisture Leave-in conditioner generously.
5. I then divided my hair into five sections. (2 in the back, 2 on the side, and 1 in the front for a bang/pompadour.)
6. I first braided the side sections.
7. I then braided the back sections and pulled the tail-end of those side braids into the braids in the back. (I really need to start YouTubing this but, I digress)
8. I then took that front section and individually twisted it.
9. I tied my hair up for the night and put a satin bonnet over the entire thing.
10. The next morning I took the twists down, seperated them just a tad.
11. I then divided that section into 2 sections and pinned them back.
12. Lastly, I crossed over those tail-ends in the back and pinned them up.
13. And you're done! I know it seems like a lot of steps but, trust me this style is too simple.
Bonus pic: This is the amount of shed hair I had once I detangled.

Great Linkage: Learn How to Do French Braids on Short & Coily Hair
I have really been wanting to wear french braids in my hair. I wanted to try them out when I first Big Chopped but, my hair was too short. I have a little extra length but, it was still difficult for me to french braid my hair (I tried this past weekend).
I know I do not have the same texture as the model's hair in this photo. However, I find hair inspirations from everywhere. Her hair is so elegant and beautiful--and so is she. This is why I adore french braids.
I think french braids are so classic and elegant. And it is such a low-maintenance style--once they are in. While on YouTube I found this video of this girl, Naptural85, who teaches how to do a french braid style on tightly coily shrunken hair. Her hair is longer than mine but, I am still going to try the style out.
Check out the link HERE.
This weekend I will be trying to french braid my hair again. However, I am going to try it on wet hair instead of dry (the dry hair was TOO tangled). I am going to first detangle the hair and then put the braids in. Hopefully, all will go well...
