Hair Today: Roll & Tuck to the Side

So, I took all of my twists out yesterday and finger detangled them in the process. It took about 4 hours total (1/2 the time it took to put in).

When trying to figure out what I was going to do with my hair today I felt like my hair was singing to me that Miley Cyrus song "I Can't Be Tamed". It was so difficult to get the bobby pins to stay put and for the hair to stay in the bobby pins. I finally settled on a Roll & Tuck style leading to a low side puff.

This style is so simple and one of my fave go-to styles when my hair is out.

After church tonight I will detangle, wash, deep condition, and then put some twists in my hair for a twist out.

  1. Your hair is so cute. Usually the simplest styles come out looking the best.

  4. Thank you, Marie Mika! I learned my makeup application from YouTube. I must admit that some days I feel like putting it on and other days I just go bare or minimal. But, I like playing in it nonetheless:-)

  6. I have few more questions: what products did you use for this look? Was it just shea butter?

  7. @Qzan - Thank you!

@Marie Mika - For this look I actually used no products. I simply took down my mini twists and slept with a satin bonnet on that night. The next morning I did the style using only bobby pins--no oil, no shea butter, etc. Since it was just a temporary style I didn't feel the need to put on products.

  8. This reminds me of one of my favorite styles. I can't explain it well and I've never seen it on another person though so maybe I should start taking hair pictures too so that I can share. I normally shy away from that sort of thing thought so I admire you for doing it. I do have a small picture file that I could share. I do the styles even though they aren't necessarily made for natural or sisterlocked hair.

Sorry if I just missed the pics somewhere on your site but, have you ever thought about using hard rollers (and just water) to achieve curls? In my own experience, it looks great with free form afro and takes much less time than twisting and then twisting out. They are uncomfortable to sleep in though, unlike twists. Caruso steam rollers are nice, gentle and even quicker. I tend to stay away from other sponge rollers because they dry my hair out. I had/have great fun seeing how my hair looked/s with those.

  9. @arielifeoma - Since I have been natural I have not tried using hard rollers on my hair. Though I am curious about how it would turn out. I may give those a try on one of these days.

    Thanks for the input!
